Oisín Medlar says
I’m a little confused listening to this podcast. Isn’t the point of evolution and adaptation to seek changes that benefit us? The carnivore-based diets of our ancestors didn’t support a life expectancy of 70 years. I agree that over-indulgence in carbohydrates, particularly processed ones, is largely responsible for numerous health issues but there is evidence supporting massive health benefits associated with more plant-based diets. Meanwhile, carnivore diets have been linked with the onset of certain cancers, high levels of cholesterol and kidney damage. I guess I’d just like to see a lot more of the literature supporting this diet as a lot of the literature I’ve seen present an imbalance of risks to benefits.
Doug Pearl says
Life expectancy of our ancestors was skewed by high rates of infant mortality. And pre-civilization humans had to contend with predators, the elements, injuries, food scarcity, etc. Modern people are sick, stupid, fat, and feeble but are kept alive artificially with grocery stores, welfare, houses, eyeglasses, insulin, surgery, etc.
The “evidence” for plant diets is based on pseudoscientific population studies. Not real science. Plant diets are starvation and malnutrition diets. Totally inappropriate for humans. Even so called whole food plant based diets are full of disease promoting plant defense chemicals and irritants. And plants lack critical nutrients such as vitamin A, B12, D, K2mk4, creatine, carnitine, taurine, DHA, EPA, choline.
Fatty meat is our evolutionary legacy and the alleged links with cancer, heart disease, kidney disease, climate change, blah blah are pure nonsense and lies. These claims are about programming the masses to fear meat and fat, and embrace fake meat and other processed garbage that make people sicker and thus enrich the medical-industrial complex.
Cholesterol does not cause disease. It is an essential building block all cell membranes, the myelin sheath that protects nerve fibers, bile salts, vitamin D, and many hormones. LDL protects against cancer, infection, tissue damage.
