Fermented jalapeño peppers is one of the easiest

Fermented jalapeño peppers is one of the easiest recipes to try if you’re new to fermentation.

All you need is 3 simple ingredients - jalapeño peppers, sea salt, and filtered water.

Fermented vegetables are rich in probiotics, making it a beneficial way to encourage gut health. And jalapeño peppers contain, Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Vitamin A, Vitamin K, Folate, Manganese, and fibre.

Fermented Jalapeño Peppers
(makes 1 - 250ml jar)

Ingredients:
• 1-2 jalapeño peppers, sliced
• 1 tsp sea salt
• 1/2-3/4 cups of water (adjust as needed)
• 1 - 250ml mason jar

Directions:
1️⃣ Wash and slice jalapeño peppers. Make sure you wear gloves or don’t touch your face as the capsaicin in the peppers will burn.
2️⃣ Add sliced jalapeños to mason jar, then add water. You’ll need to adjust how much is needed but as noted above just make sure it is submerged.
3️⃣ Add sea salt then put lid on and lightly shake the jar.
4️⃣ Open the lid back up and adjust water level if required. The peppers need to be submerged under the salt water brine to prevent mold from growing.
5️⃣ Open the lid everyday to let the jar burp. This will help avoid any mess or bubbling over from the fermentation process.
6️⃣ Peppers are ready in 5-7 days. They will go from bright green colour to olive green colour.
7️⃣ Store in the fridge and use within 6 months.

Note: You can also add garlic, carrots, herbs, or try different varieties of spicy peppers. Plus, this recipe can easily be doubled etc.

Now ditch the canned store bought version high in preservatives and make your own fermented jalapeños containing probiotics that are great to add to the following dishes:
•nachos, tacos, burritos
•dips
•charcuterie boards
•pizza
•burgers
•mac & cheese
